Monica (Monica Denise Arnold, born October 24, 1980, in Georgia) is an American R&B singer, songwriter and actress, one of the defining R&B voices of the late 1990s.
Discovered as a young teenager by producer Dallas Austin, she released her debut album Miss Thang in 1995. It went multi-platinum and included the hits "Don't Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days)" and "Before You Walk Out of My Life".
In 1998 her duet with Brandy, "The Boy Is Mine", topped the Billboard Hot 100 for thirteen weeks and won the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Her second album, The Boy Is Mine, also produced the number-one singles "The First Night" and "Angel of Mine".
Monica returned to the top of the R&B charts in 2003 with "So Gone" and later starred in the reality series Monica: Still Standing. Her other honours include BET, Billboard and Soul Train awards.
